W. Bro. Jim MacKinnon P.M. Hon. Assistant Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Scotland 1916 - 2005 |
On May 19th 2005 Jim sadly passed away peacefully in hospital at the grand age of 89yrs. He would have been well prepared for that moment, knowing that there would be a deserved place reserved for him in Grand Lodge above. Amongst the masons at his funeral, there were no less than 4 brethren who were installed Provincial Grand Masters of the Province of Inverness-shire, that is, the current PGM and his 3 predecessors. Throughout one's life, one doesn't often meet special, genuine and sincere people, who remain that way at all times. Jim was one of those and I personally feel very privileged to have known him. If any of us can aspire to a proportion of Jim's achievements, we will have succeeded. He inspired many a mason who met him. On behalf of the many Freemasons who knew him and who had the greatest of respect for him, all I can say is 'Thank you, Jim'. Can I now ask you all to be upstanding, not to mourn him, because he wouldn't want that, but with heads held high, to celebrate the life of Jim MacKinnon, a man who loved his Freemasonry ; to reflect on the example of a true mason, and by doing so it may help to strive to make us all better men, through our practice of Freemasonry in our daily lives. Obituary as written and read in Lodge by: Colin Kneen, 30th degree PM. Lodge St.Kilda 16 December 2005 |
